dear fisher

dear fisher,

One of the hardest things so far has been being away from you all day while I'm at work. I miss you and wish that I could have you there with me. It's even harder now that we put you to bed so early. It's not fair that I only get to spend a couple of hours with my favorite little person.
We started making you cry it out this week, not the easiest thing for us to do. Some nights are good and some not so good. You got up extra early this morning, which is why I'm writing this now. You didn't want to let me do much of my yoga video. . .
While we were letting you cry it out we had lots of visitors which kept us distracted from your crying. One of my best friends, Jess, came into town to meet you. It was so good to see her, I hope that she's always in your life! Mimi and Papa also came in to see you and the Brown's, but I think that you were the more successful visit of the weekend. I wish that they lived closer so you could spend more time with them.
So, this weekend while we don't have much going on, let's work on sleeping a little later so that we can too! But even as tired as I am at 4:00 am, I can't get mad when I see that precious face.

I love you,
Mom

P.S.-Some stats. Fisher was 15 lbs 12 oz at his 4 month appt last week and 25.5 inches long. He's getting so big! He was so happy at the doctor's office, just drooling and cooing away, barely making a peep when he got his shots.

Fisher's first photo shoot

my friend Amy took some awesome pictures of Fisher today. This one is my favorite I think. Thanks Amy!!!

the start of 'dear fisher'

I want our blog to be more. . . more of a record of the journey that we are going through as new parents, more of the feelings that we have, and more of the little things that make us, 'us'. So, I'm going to try to transform this blog into more than just pictures and notes. I'm going to try to make it a journal of everything that we're going through together. I have the worst memory so maybe this will help me remember all of the little things that go on so in 20 years I can remember not only when Fisher had a first, but also how we felt at that moment. I'm not super touchy feely but ever since I've become a mom I'm sort of an emotional wreck. I guess it comes with the job!

I've decided to write letters to Fisher weekly(hopefully). Not all of them are going to be mushy, actually most of them probably won't be, but I want to capture everything and I want him to know later on just how much he meant to us from the start. I thought it would be a good way to express my feelings and at the same time letting all the important people in his life know just what he is doing(right now, drooling). So read on if you want, but if you just want to see pics that's ok too. Here's the first letter:

Dear Fisher,

I feel like I’ve always lived for the next big moment. I’ve always looked ahead to what’s next, just waiting for something to happen but never really enjoying all the little moments that make up life. But you’ve changed that. You make every day a new adventure and I want to pause all of our moments together just so they last a little bit longer. You’re already growing up so fast and I love seeing you get big and strong, but I also want to keep you my baby forever. You make me a better person, more understanding and compassionate towards people and things where I wasn’t before. I hope that as you grow and develop, I can too. I want to be a better person for you. And for your dad because you guys are my life.

I love you, Mom

Here's a little preview of Fisher's laugh, it's more of a squeal really. Either way, it's really cute!

New Pics

I feel like I never really have anything to say, especially compared to some sister in laws I have! I need to try to keep up with them, so here I go.
A couple new things:
  • Fisher talks gibberish all the time now. He just lays on his mat, sticks his fist in his mouth and goes off. It's hilarious. I keep trying to catch it on video but it doesn't work out so well.
  • He is so alert, noticing everything around him-including Chopper. He smiles at Chopper and was petting him the other night but I don't think he knew what he was petting! Even a lady in Old Navy said that he was alert and you should always listen to strangers (she also said that he loved his mommy-that's me-so I believe everything she says).
  • We think he's going to skip crawling and go straight to walking because he hates "tummy time" but loves standing up with our help.
  • He poops & pees a lot-oh yea, and spits up a lot too
  • The monkey picture is his Halloween costume but someone switched out the pants with a bigger size and I can't find a store with the right size, so he might not be a monkey for Halloween. . . at least we got cute pics. Do you think they'll notice the drool?

More to come! Enjoy the pics
