More pictures to come soon, but just wanted to give a quick update on our little peanut.
Perry is doing really good the last few days. He's gaining weight, up to 4 lbs 4.5 oz and hasn't had any spells (where he forgets to breathe and his heartrate dips) in about a week since he was put on the caffeine. He'll be on caffeine to help with those spells for about another week, until he is 34 weeks gestational and then they will wean him off. The weaning takes about 5 days and then he needs to be spell free for 5 days before coming home.
He has two other other big things that he has to do in order to come home, learn to eat on his own at every feeding and be able to regulate his body temperature. He's making some progress on eating but it still really wipes him out. His isolete is at 30.5 degrees right now and needs to get to 27 before he'll be able to get into a crib.
Chris and I are hanging in there. Just trying to juggle time with Fisher, time with Perry and work (Chris). It's a balancing act to say the least and I know that I feel torn between home and the hospital every minute of the day but we're making it work. I'm getting some extra time in the mornings with Fisher and then spend rest of the day/evening at the hospital. Chris tries to get to the hospital during the day and then spends time with Fisher in the evening. When I can, I try to get home for a little bit in the evening and then back for the later feeding. We've been lucky to have Mimi and Papa to help out with Fisher so that we can go to the hospital together every once in awhile too.
Coffee has been my best friend these days. Chris is so impressed that I drink regular coffee now (with flavored creamer) and says that if I just drank beer now I would be close to perfect (ok, he just said "now all you need is to drink beer" but I translated it to the above statement).
Hopefully we only have a couple weeks left of this routine before we can bring our little boy home. Then the real adventure begins! Fisher talks about his baby brother Perry but I don't think he knows what is in store for him. He has grown up so much in the past few months though and will be a great big brother.
Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers.
